Syphilis Incidence Among Tuvan Children Decreased

The incidence of syphilis decreased 15% in Tuva over 9 months, 2006. Apart from six districts (kozhuuns), where syphilis incidence increased up to 68.2%, a decrease was registered in the rest of Tuvan area.

Moreover, gonorrhoea incidence lowered 16.4%, and scab – 18.8%.

A case of inborn syphilis was registered by doctors in Kyzyl, the capital of Tuvan Republic, Tuva Online news agency reports.

According to the Ministry for Health service of Tuva, a total of 751 people are suffering from syphilis in the republic now. Syphilis incidence decreased among schoolchildren and constituted 44 cases in 2006. The largest number of small syphilis patients was registered in Kyzyl (17) and in the Kyzylsky kozhuun (9 cases). The diseases are most often detected on pupils of the seventh and the ninth forms. Fifty percent of the patients have latent syphilis. All the cases happened after sexual intercourses.
