“Dersu Uzala”, Akira Kurosawa’s Oskar-winning film, is to be shown in Moscow for Kurosawa’s 100th birthday

Today, as part of the cinematic festival “Kinematograficheskii Chekhov” , in the “Klassika” hall (Ezenshtein Library, Moscow), National Artist of SSSR Yuri Solomin and other participants of the film team will introduce the film “Dersu Uzala”(Mosfilm 1975), based on the writer and traveler Vladimir Arseniev’s book of the same name. The film showing is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa.

The story revolves around the person of a taiga hunter Dersu Uzala, a wise, good and brave man, who was tied to Arseniev by sincere friendship. The role of Dersu was played by our compatriot, National Artist of RSFSR and Tuvan ASSR, Maxim Munzuk, Arseniev was played by National Artist of Russia, Yuri Solomin. Among the others featured in the film were Svetlana Danilchenko, Dima Korshikov, Suimenkul Chokmorov, Aleksandr Piatkov, Mikhail Bychkov and more.

The film received awards” Gold prize MKF in Moscow, 1975; “Oskar” for the best foreign film, USA, 1975; the “David di Donatello” prize for best foreign film, Italy, 1977; Special prize of National association of writers and scenarists of Spain for the best foreign film, 1977; in a poll of movie critics, the film was named among the best movies of 1970’s and 1980’s, and other awards and recognitions.
