Last Friday, people and visitors of the Austrian capital Vienna had a unique opportunity to learn about Republic Tuva – a presentation of this Russian region in the center of Asia took place at the Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCNK).
Those who gathered at RCNK met shamans of the “Bear Spirit” association. In full shamanic regalia - picturesque leather clothing and with ancient drums in their hands – they performed ritual dances accompanied by burning of special herbs. After that, a concert of the “Edegei” ensemble took place. This ensemble has been the winner of many international contests, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2010.
With a storm of applause and shouts of “Bravo!” the audience welcomed the masters of throat-singing and the dance numbers. Between the performances of the artists, the gathering could admire demonstrations of national folk attire.
In the foyer of “Russian house” there was an exhibition of national applied arts and crafts, and a photo exhibition showing the history and traditions, as well as Tuva of today.
“This is simply fantastic”, shared his impressions of the evening the general secretary of Austrian-Russian Friendship association, Viktor Billek.
Throat singing made an especially strong impression.
“For us, Austrians, it was extremely interesting to hear something so exotic”, - said Billek.
