Today, the member of the Tuvan volunteer squadron, which liberated towns and villages of the Ukraine, Vera Chuldumovna Bailak, left for Moscow today.
The 85-year-old front-line soldier will participate tomorrow in the opening of the exhibition “Tuvinian National Republic – Everything for our common victory!” at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic war on Poklonnaya gora. She is bringing a copy of the banner of Tuvinian Arat Republic of 1941-1945 for the collections of the federal museum.
The museum at Poklonnaya gor admits that the Tuvan exhibition is of special significance.
“We are opening a little-known page in the history of the Great Patriotic War, - as the vice-director of the Central Museum of the GPW, Viktor Skryabin tells us. – Tuva, a small country in the center of Asia, had all the opportunities to “remain modestly silent”, yet it put everything on the altar of our common Victory. This exhibition shows that we stood side by side in the war with Nazism, and that it helped us to be victorious.”
The exhibition, as Skryabin explains, is a part of a major project “The Geography of the Victory”, that will continue not only during the Anniversary year of the Victory, but will become permanent.
It will introduce not only the regions of Russia, but also all the countries of Anti-Hitler Coalition.
The Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War has already exhibited the expositions of Volgograd and Vologda regions, city Rzhevo, and Belorussia.
Exhibitions of cities of Kursk and Orel, Krasnoyarsk region, Ukraine, and Slovakia will follow. Next year, during the anniversary of the battle at Moscow, the towns of the Moscow region will be exhibited – Smolensk and Vyazma.
The exposition in Moscow is organized in the framework of a special project “Moya Pobeda” (My Victory). Official delegation from Tuva, headed by the Chiarman of the Government Sholban Kara-ool, will take part in the opening ceremony, and representatives of the diplomatic corps of USA, Great Britain, France, Poland and Ukraine have been invited.
The Soviet command noted the heroism, which was shown by the Tuvan volunteer squadron during the liberation of the cities and villages of the Ukraine.
Vera Chuldumovna Bailak is today the only surviving member of the legendary military formation. On May 9, she will take part in the Victory Parade on the Red Square.
