The expedition, dedicated to the 2200 Anniversary of the foundation of the Hsiung-nu Empire, will take place from May 28 to June 30 on the territory of Buryatia, Mongolia, Tyva, Krasnoyarsk Krai and Khakassia, as announced by the press-service of the Ministry of Culture of Buryatia.
"This event will take place with the support of the Federal Agency for culture and cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Ministry of education and culture of Mongolia, - the site states.
The International ethnographic expedition "In the footprints of the Hsiung-nu - 2011" will include 10 representatives from Russian ethnographic museum in Sankt-Peterburg, Moscow companies "Tekhnika Specialnogo Naznachenia" and "Arenda Avto", as well as regional association of friends of Mongolia. A memorial plaque will be raised at the southernmost point of the route, as well as Russian and Mongolian flags.
As the announcement states, participants of the expedition set themselves the task of overturning the stereotype of "savage Huns" ( Transl. note: Hsiung-nu are the most likely ancestors of the Huns of Europe), because this empire had traits of high culture and in its early stages established cultural connections with both the West and the East.
The main result of this expedition should be a visualization of ethnographic activities of the country in the form of a special edition of "Raznaya Zemlya" photo-album, with short scientific commentaries to contemporary and archival photos.
