Exhibition "Treasures of Tuva" opened in Sankt-Peterburg

At the headquarters of Russian Geographic Society in Sankt-Peterburg,  the opening of exhibition "Treasures of Tuva" took place, dedicated to 90th anniversary of Tuvan People's republic. It was organized by Russian geographic Society and Institute of history of material culture of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Acting for Russian Geographic Society, the vice-president of the Society, head of department of regional economics and nature utilization, department of natural sciences, regional science, information, tourism and mathematical methods of Sankt-Peterburg State University of economy and finance, Vladimir Razumovskiy opened the exhibition.

The concept of the exhibition requires knowledge not only of relevant archeological projects on Tuvan territory, but of tradition of archeological research in this area as well.

The exhibition presents about 200 specimens. In a special position are artifacts  discovered during the first field season of archeological-geographic expedition "Kyzyl-Kuragino" in the summer of 2011 (the finds date to Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, there are artifacts from Scythian era, and objects of  life and culture of nomads).

Unique specimen of special interest - a mummy of a Scythian young man in embryonic position (dry organics), dates to 7th century before our era. Analogical specimen can be seen in Sankt-Peterburg only at the State Hermitage. The exhibition also shows artifacts found during the "Por-Bazhyn" expedition, photographs from academic expeditions of famous archeologist A. Grach, and archeological research of Institute of material culture and Russian Geographic Society. Representatives from Sankt-Peterburg Tuvan compatriot association "Anyiak Tyva" participated in the formal opening ceremony. They presented concert numbers and added beauty to the action with their lovely stylized decorative outfits.
