The series of ethno-activities in the club 16Tonn continues, and is growing every minute.
On February 9, there was a premiere: Tuvan singer, who combines throat singing with electronic elements and free-jazz, supported by famous multi-instrumentalists – Sergei Letov, and the founder of the Night Prospect, Aleksei Borisov; neither needs an introduction, and they quarantee serious interest in how all this looks and sounds live. Sainkho Nanchylak – Tuvan singer with a mysterious “shamanic” voice. The technique of her singing is multifaceted – from throat singing of “khoomei” style to the lowest and highest vocal ranges. Sainkho unites tradition and avant-garde turns to ancient vocal techniques, to ethnic music of Siberia and the North, practices Tibetan double-voice, and at the same time uses the newest approaches to sound production, including free-jazz way of singing, bravely experiments with electronics,, combining contemporary digital technology with archaic instruments and approaches.
Namchylak has been called “the magic voice of Tuva”, and this astonishing and magnetic singing has been compared to the sounds of nature and music of the elements. Nature and urban culture become one – the continuity of time becomes obvious.
Sainkho will perform on the stage of 16 Tonn with the support of famous musicians – the legendary Sergei Letov (Pop-mekhanika, Tri”O”, Akavarium, Centr, Alisa, DDT, Embryo, New Jungle Orchestra, and co-operative work with Matthew Sheep and Susan Allen), and Aleksei Borisov, (Noght Prospect, Centr, Gosplan, Volga, and innumerable performances throughout entire Europe.
