On October 5 Tuvan militia detained a 38-year-old suspect, an ex-criminal, for raping a 5-year-old girl and drowning her and her 3-year-old brother in the Uyuk river.
Artem and Dayana Baikara were reported missing on September 30. The mall childrens bodies were found drowned in the Uyuk river on October 2. Officers of the criminal investigation department and a forensic medical expert were sent to the accident site. They found a plastic toy car, a half-empty bottle of "Sprite" and a sport jacket, of 44-46 size.
Investigation established that the kids were left at home with their grandmother on September 30--their mother was making a visit to Kyzyl to see her eldest daughter. The children went for a walk at about 2.00 p. m. Village residents saw them near the Culture House, near a stela with an inscription "Uyuk", and then on the side of a federal road. At about 8.00 p. m. the kids were seen playing near an old bridge across the river. A woman heard children cries from the direction of the river but paid no attention to them.
