Tuva-Online Information Agency is turning today 3 – not a jubileum date in Europe but quite an event in Tuva to hold a Doy ceremony! It is a ritual taking place on child's third birthday when he has his hair for the first time cut (that is why before this age boys are very often taken for girls in Tuva) and is presented with numerous gifts. The child acquires his own property made up of sheep, horses, camels etc.

Hi from Finland! Red about last summers debate about foreigners right to sing khoomei. First of all: I think that Tuvans, Mongolians or anybody can do much to prevent people to sing. I highly recommend Tuvans to take real close look to example bluegrass or Irish music which are little bit more known all around the world than khoomei.

Tuvan Naadym won't any more be celebrated on August, 15 as it used to be before together with the Day of the Republic. Tuvan Government considers it an extra luxury for the republic whose budget is 90 per cents donated from Moscow. Shagaa will remain the only national holiday accompanied by an official day-off. The date for it every year will be fixed by a special resolution of the Legislative Chamber of the Great Tuvan Khural (Parliament) as it was this year - on February, 9.

A new film on Tuva has been recently produced by the State TV Broadcasting Company "Tyva". It opens up a new world to you - the intriguing and unique world of Tuva and its nomads, who still make up two-thirds of the population. People from the very heart of Asia, with its infinite steppe and impenetrable taiga, hot desert sands and snow-capped mountain peaks, its blooming Alpine meadows and severe tundra.

Different opinions on the future of khoomei and participation of foreign throat-singers in the Tuvan khoomei competitions go on coming. Here is a view by Arjopa (Germany) complimenting the discussion started by the review of the Festival of Khoomei dedicated to Gennady Tumat (July, 2004). As a professional musician and the only foreign jury member of last year's Khoomei-Symposium 2003, I think that the participation of none-tuvan singers should be handled in a different way.
