Tuvan alpinists Maadyr-ool Khovalyg, Mariana Surunchap and Vladimir Dyukov successfully conquered their fourth peak, the highest mountain of North America, Mt.MacKinley (6193 meters)., which was named “Denali”, the highest, the greatest, by Native Americans.
As the alpinists reported from Anchorage, the ascent took 16 days.
Brand new esthetic standards of sports competitions were set in Tuva last Sunday.
In a beautified, music-equipped sports complex “Subedei”, there was a celebration of grace and beauty – the first competition in artistic gymnastics to take place in Tuva. It did not receive the status of a Championship because of the very young age of the participants. Forty-one athletes aged from 3 to 14 years came out onto the gymnastics mat and introduced programs with a hoop, jump-rope, and ribbons to the enthusiastic, admiring spectators.
One of the most beautiful and spectacular types of sport – artistic gymnastics – is being first introduced to Tuva.
Children’s admissions to to groups of this type of sport are now being held at the sports-complex “Subedei”.
“Honestly, we did not expect that so many will be interested in practicing artistic gymnastics”, admits the director of the republican children’s and youth sports school, Tolban Samdan.
The master of this sport, Alena Udod, prize-winning champion of Krasnoyarsk in artistic gymnastics, came to Kyzyl to teach the little athletes.
Today, the local sports community welcomed Lorisa Oorzhak like a national hero, as she returned from the Championship of Russia in women’s wrestling in Stavropol with a gold medal.
In the words of the director of the sports and physical culture agency of the republic, Mergen Oorzhak, “ Lorisa’s return into the big sport is comparable to the heroism of Alexei Maresyev.” (*)
Today, the bicycle race “Sayan Ring” will pass through the Kyzyl-Chadan route. Yesterday, the race “Kriterium” took place on the main square of Kyzyl, the capital of the republic. Two veterans of bicycle racing, Anatoliy Khramlyuk and Andrei Semagin, achieved remarkable results. Both are former trainees of the illustrious trainer of Russia, Valeriy Denshchikov.
"Sayan Ring" traditional cycling marathon starts in Krasnoyarsk Friday. The route comprises towns and districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia and Tuva. 30 top sportsmen and veterans of cycling from five Siberian regions and the Republic of Kazakhstan will take part in the marathon. The routs is: Krasnoyarsk – Achinsk – Abakan – Kyzyl – Ak-Dovurak – Abakan – Krasnoyarsk. Participants of the cycling marathon will overcome about 2,500 kilometers.
The winner of 120 kg category iin the Third All-Russian Freestyle Wrestling Tournament for the prizes of Buvaisar Saitiev, two-time Olympic champion, is Soyan Sonam from Tuva. Tuvan wrestlers used to be in the lead in the light categories and this victory came as a surprise.Krasnoyarsk wrestlers have won three golden medals. Andrei Maltsev and Stepan Yeremeyev took the first places in the weight categories of 100 and 58 kg. Vusal Mustafaev of Azerbaijan and Tomur Oorzhak of the Republic of Tuva were second respectively.
Victory Day in Tuva started with a military parade along the Lenin street, the main street in Kyzyl. On a tribune greeting the passing by rows were Members of the Tuvan government, parliament, mayor and 75 war veterans. The parade was followed by marching in columns schoolchildren. Then the action place moved to the Khuresh stadium, which was overcrowded.
The coach of wrestler Lorisa Oorzhak is to blame for the tragedy that happened to her, head of the Republic of Tuva Sholban Kara-ool said. He stated it at the press conference April 25, the republican government's press service reported. The chairman said the accident had happened "due to irresponsibility of her coach who took her to unplanned Nazarovo's competitions instead of sending the girl home to Tuva after European Championship, for the sake of his self-interest."
On April 22 Tuvan wrestler and the main Olympic hope of Tuva, two-time European champion, including in Sofia in 2007, Lorisa Oorzhak, who suffered serious injuries in a car accident and had her kidney eliminated, was moved from the intensive care to the surgical department. Chief of surgical department of Achinsk Central District Hospital Yury Goncharov informed Ves Sport agency about the state of the girl. "Lorisa was moved to our surgical department in the morning," he said, "She is in the common ward. Visitors are allowed. There are her relatives and coach there now. Lorisa Oorzhak is conscious. She is reported as being in a stable condition.
