Three Mothers on Hunger Strike Claiming their Sons Innocent of Murder
Mothers on hunger strike. Photo by Oyumaa Khomushku The mothers of three 19-year-old students are on a hunger strike since December 22 protesting against their sons' 5-months-long detainment for an accusation of murder. The mothers draw evidence proving their sons are innocent of the murder but they say that it is not taken into account by the invesigation. 'We have nothing to lose', - the women say putting their health and lives at risk.

Audit Chamber Reveals Financial Irregularities in Tuva's Great Khural Activity
The Audit Chamber revealed financial irregularities of more than $1.5 m in alt the activity of the Great Hural of Tuva after a checkup. The checkup also showed numerous violations of federal and regional laws.

It emerged that $403,000 with more than $345,000 transferred by the Legislative Chamber from the republican budget and $27,000 by the House of Representatives, including other funds not referred to the taxable incomes, were received via a settlement account of the management of OJSC Tuvakredit, a commercial bank.

Tuvan Only Airport Closed
The only airport of the Republic of Tuva has been today closed down for an uncertain period of time. External and domestic flights have been canceled at Kyzyl Airport. As Newslab.ru cites KrasAir spokesperson Anna Segreneva, this decision was made by Federal Air Transport Agency. "Kyzyl airport's aircraft operator certificate has expired, so it cannot continue its work," she said.

10 Tuvan Children Invited to Kremlin New Year Matinee

Tuvan Choreographer Becomes Miss Krasnoyarsk 2007 Producer
The organizing committee of the tenth annual beauty contest "Miss Krasnoyarsk Miss Centre of Asia show staged by Vyacheslav Dongak 2007" has charged Tuvan choreographer Vyacheslav Dongak with production, Tuva-Online news agency reports.

"We like his ability to show and take into consideration individual features of every participant, to choose plastics for each of them correctly. Moreover, he can organize and present a beautiful show for viewers," Regina Kuzmenko, the Vice President of Krasnoyarsk Aerobics and Fitness Federation, believes.

New Attempt to Hold First Session of Tuvan Parliament
A new attempt, the sixth of its kind, has been made to hold the first session of the Legislative chamber of the Great Khural of the Republic of Tuva. The corresponding decree was signed by Tuva's Prime-Minister Sherig-ool Oorzhak, after his consultations with President's Envoy in Siberia Anatoli Kvashnin. The previous 5 have failed due to boycott by 12 Life party deputies thus protesting against the illegal cancelling of victories of their 5 colleagues following October 8 voting.

Tuvan Prime-Minister Awarded with Mongolian Order of Polar Star
Mongolian Consul and Tuvan Prime-minister. Photo by the Tuvan government Chairman of the Tuvan Government Sherig-ool Oorzhak was awarded with the Order of the Polar Star, the highest award of Mongolia. Mongolia's Consul General Sumakhuu based in Tuva noted at the meeting with the head of the republic that the Mongolian government highly appreciated the contribution made by Oorzhak to the strengthening and the development of cooperation between their countries, the newslab.ru reported.

First Foster Family Appeared in Kyzyl
Photo by Valeri Irgit The first foster family appears in Kyzyl, the capital of the Republic of Tuva. The Khovalyg family have fostered three children: two boys and a girl from Kyzyl Children's Home, newslab.ru reported.

Mikhail and Marina Khovalyg have been working as teachers for their whole lives. They have already have two grown children.

Average Salary in Tuva $300
Socioeconomic development of Tuva for the 11 months of 2006 was under consideration at the Republican Government session. Deputy economics minister Chingis Bady said that the per capita income in Tuva has grown by 17% and the average salary stands at 8850 rubles (appr $300). Correspondingly trade turnover has grown by 19%.

Tuva Runner-up in Unemployment Rating in Russia
In Russia, the unemployment shed from 6.8 percent to 6.1 percent during a year, but long-term unemployment widened to 40 percent at the same time, the Russian Statistics Service said in the report released on Friday. Even though the average chances for remaining unemployed are not very grand here, the problem is underestimated in some regions, the report signaled.
